The 2001–02 NHL season saw the Detroit Red Wings assemble a "Super Team" featuring nine future Hall of Famers. After acquiring Dominik Hasek, Brett Hull, and Luc Robitaille, Detroit dominated the league and defeated Carolina in the Finals to win their third Cup in six years. Jarome Iginla had a historic season for Calgary, becoming the first Black player to win the Art Ross and Lester B. Pearson trophies. The season also marked the final year for legendary coach Scotty Bowman, who retired with a record nine Stanley Cup championships as a coach.
