Times and on seattletimes.com Sites unseen: www.hockeyzoneplus.com Times rating: 3 stars (4 is best) Focus: Features English and French versions on all aspects of hockey from the Atlanta Thrashers to Zambonis. Surfability: Once you get past the hard-to-read red background at the top, there are plenty of links to just about everything in the game. Uplinks: An eclectic mix of news, humor, commentary and shopping. One of the best features is the hockey biz link, which includes a history of players' salaries, owners, arena costs and franchise values. The link to the now-defunct weekly e-zine "hockey snacks" is must reading, featuring some of the oddest and funniest collection of stories and images in hockey history (try an interview with a referee's whistle for starters). Among the other interesting links: Red Square (Russian hockey), GoalieMania (rankings and more for goaltenders), Puckerings (articles from Iain Fyffe, hockey historian and statistician) and Offside (videos, games, screensavers, etc.). Downloads: What is on the site is fine, but it would be nice to have more articles and up-to-date news and information. Too many of the features are dated. The payrolls and salaries are from two seasons ago. Also, lose that red background at the top with microscopic type, which makes it very hard to read. ElsewhereBillion-dollar eBaby: eBay Sports, a site dedicated to all sports consumers launched this week. The new site brings the four core eBay Sports businesses — memorabilia, event tickets, licensed merchandise and sporting goods — together in one location at www.eBaySports.com. Since being introduced on eBay, the sports-related businesses have been among eBay's fastest-growing categories. This week's sports chat: Rudy Ruettiger, the real-life inspiration for the movie "Rudy," Friday, 6 p.m., ESPN.com. — Tony Guadagnoli, The Seattle Times |
