Globan Cup
The head coach of the Russian team, Alexander Yakushev,
announced the extended list of candidates for the Russian team which will compete at the
fourth stage of The Four Nations tournament named "Globan Cup" held in Sweden on
February 8-13.
Goalies: Ilya Bryzgalov (Lada Togliatti), goaltenders Egor
Podomatsky (Torpedo Yaroslavl), Maxim Sokolov (SKA St. Petersburg).
Defensemen: former Jet, Red Wing, Shark Sergei Bautin (Nurnsburg
Ice Tigers, Germany), Alexander Zhdan, Dimitri Bykov (both AkBars Kazan) Dimitry Krasotkin
(Torpedo Yaroslavl), Yuri Kuznetsov (Syaipa, Finland) teammates Montreal draftee Andrei
Markov and St. Louis draftee Alexander Khavanov (both Dynamo Moscow), teammates Oleg
Shargorodsky and Dallas draftee Yevgeny Petrochinin (Metallurg Novokuznetsk), Dimitri
Ryabykin (Avangard Omsk) and former Senator Dimitri Filimonov (Molot-Prikamie Perm).
Forwards: former NHLers Valeri Karpov (representative of
Metallurg Magnitogorsk), former NHLer as well Sergei Petrenko (Metallurg Novokuznetsk/
former Vitkovitse, Check Republick), Sergey Zinovyev (Metallurg Novokuznetsk), Alexander
Prokopiev, former Maple Leaf Alexei Kudashov, Alexander Kuvaldin, Alexander Kharitonov
(all Dynamo Moscow), teammates Nashvil draftee Denis Arkhipov and Yuri Dobryshkin (AkBars
Kazan), Maxim Sushinsky, Dimitri Zatonsky, Ravil Yakubov (all representatives of Avangard
Omsk), Calgary draftee Dimitri Vlasenkov (Torpedo Yaroslavl), Alexei Koznev (SKA St.
Petersburg), Yevgeny Akhmetov, Nickolay Bardin, Alexandre Gulyavtsev, Yevgeny Fedorov (all
representatives of Molot-Prikamye Perm).
Six rookies were called up for a try out in the national team.
They are Yevgeny Akhmetov, Nickolay Bardin, Alexandre Gulyavtsev, Yevgeny Fedorov, Ilya
Bryzgalov, Sergey Zinovyev. The last three ones are silver medallists of team Russia at
the 1999/2000 World Junior Championships.
Detroit draftee Pavel Datsuk (Ak Bars Kazan/ former
Dynamo-Energiya Ekaterinsburg) is still unfortunately recovering from an injury. It was
decided not to call up the following representatives of Metallurg Magnitogorsk: Washington
draftee Sergey Tertishny, former NHLers Ravil Gusmanov and Maxim Bets because their team
will compete on February 5-6 in Switzerland in the prestigious European club tournament
named Euroleague.
Finally, only 23 players will remain on the roster of team
Russia for the tournament of the "Globan Cup". On February 7 the final decision
will be made who is unwanted on the roster.
