One More Canadian Goaltender in Russia
Russian team SKA Amur Khabarovsk acquired 24-year-old Canadian goaltender Steve
Plouffe from the Western Pro Hockey League. It looks like it is becaming very popular to
have a Canadian player on the roster of a Russian team. Plouffe is the third Canadian
netminder playing in Russia.
Recently, in the middle of November, 24-year-old Canadian
forward Shawn Tyler Allard was trying to make the lineup of Amur Khabarovsk but was not
successful. He took part only in four games where he managed to make one assist and to
earn a 2 minute penalty. Now he has gone back to Canada.
The director of Amur Yevgeny Tsurikov commented on the situation, "He
couldnt make the team roster because his hockey skills leave much to be desired.
There are lots of Russian players who are much better than him. Thats the reason why
we refused to sign him."
