Coach
Tom Renney (Former Vancouver Canucks' coach)

A month before the start of the Baltic Cup team Canada toured Russia and played against the clubs of the Russian super league. The roster of team Canada is nearly the same as it was during the tour. Two NHLers joined the team. One of them is Warren Norris and the other is 34-year old Phoenix Coyotes’ free agent Gerald Diduck. At the end of last season he was injured a playoff game and had to undergo knee surgery. Now he is recovering and helping the team of Tom Roeney to prepare for the 2000 World Championships which will be held in St. Petersburg.

HockeyZone: Will you play for team Canada at the 2000 World Championships?
Gerald Diduck: I’d like to play but now I’m free agent and I see myself only as an NHLer in the immediate future. I even think that I’ll have a chance to play in the play-off games.

HockeyZone: What team would that be for?
Gerald Diduck: Nobody knows. My agent is negociating with five clubs that want to have me on the roster. I can point out as well that I won't play for the Phoenix Coyotes. I have some disagreement with the governing body of the club.

HockeyZone: How would you describe your relations with Tom Renney?
Gerald Diduck: Excellent! I hope in 10 years I’ll replace him as head coach of team Canada!

Unfortunately Team Canada was not a success at this tournament. The team was beaten by team Russia 8-2, Sweden 4-0, Chech Republic 6-2 and finally managed to play in a draw with the team of Finland 2-2. Gerald Diduck was probably the best player of the Canadian team. He was acknowledged as the best Canadian player in the game against the Chech Republic where he scored twice.

Team           GP   W   T    L   GF-GA  PTS
Russia         4   3    1   0   19-10   7
Chech Republic 4   2   1   1   10- 6    5
Finland        4   1   2    1    7- 6   4
Sweden         4   1    1   2    9- 9   3
Canada         4   0    1   3    6-20   1
