Interview with Cory Murphy and Steve Wilson

HockeyZone: What were your first impressions of the new club Molot?
Cory Murphy: Here there are very good players and many of them are hockey prospects. In North America, the game is a physical one with lots of bodychecks and greatly differs from the Russian one. We were received very well  by our new teammates.

HockeyZone: What do you think of Russia?
Steve Wilson: It was rumored when we made up our minds to go Russia that the situation in this country is not so peaceful. Now we see that there is not the slightest sign of danger here. The people are kind to us and are very pleasant.

HockeyZone: Are there any moments in Russian hockey which surprise you?
Steve Wilson: Yes, for example for us it is difficult to understand what is allowed and what is forbidden to do on the ice. The refereeing seems a little bit illogical and strange.

HockeyZone: I saw a pretty girl with you. Is she your Canadian friend?
Steve Wilson: Oh, she is my girlfriend. She comes to visit me often from Canada.

HockeyZone: When you played in North America for Chesapeake in the East Coast Hockey League, were you in one defensive pair?
Steve Wilson: More often yes than no, but as you know in Canada hockey is treated in a different way. There is no such concept of a constant defensive pairing. The same can be said about offensive lines.

HockeyZone: Do you play in one defensive pair for your new team Molot?
Cory Murphy: Sure!

HockeyZone: Do you know something about the legendary past of your coach?
Steve Wilson: Before coming to Russia we knew the surname of such players as Pervukhin. We got to know about his glorious past only here. He was a great defensemen. We’ll always be proud to remember the time when we were coached by him.

P.S. Vasily Pervukhin says about the Canadians," These guys really know what hockey is. Moreover they are great guys."
