Legendary 1972 Super Series to be Relived in
1999
Twenty seven years
have passed since Canadian hockey professionals and Russian amateur players rivaled each
other for the first time in the legendary Super Series.
This year Russian hockey fans will get the unique chance to see the
legends of the hockey world on the ice once again. The plan was to play the games during
the 25th anniversary of the legendary series, but the recent Russian financial
crisis ruined all hopes of organizing the event.
Today however, this idea is close to reality. These games will become a
great celebration for middle-aged people of the former Soviet Union. The organizers are
sure that the play of the veterans will attract lots of fans. The game, which will be held
in Moscow on December 11, 1999, will be broadcasted on television. It will be dedicated to
the memory of legendary Russian forward Valerie Kharlamov, who was killed in a traffic
accident of 1981. His son Alexander Kharlamov, known for his trying to get onto the roster
of the Washington Capitals, will play on the veterans team in his fathers
place.
Unfortunately many key players of the time can't take part in the
series because of their busy schedule.
