The Back-Ups Strike BackBy Jean-Pierre Collette - January 22, 2002 Often, the back-up job for a goaltender is not easy. You only play once or twice a month, your teammates, your coach and your fans are not always behind you. This season, it seems to be a bit different for the back-up goalies. Many of them are doing better a job than the starting goalie of their team. GoalieMania found 11 teams in which the back-up goaltender had better numbers than the starting goalie. Some peoples could say that back-up goalies often play against weaker teams. But let's just give some credits to those poor back-up goalies...they really need it!
