In the 60s, the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Senior League had the tradition, after
scoring, of waving a wolf lookalike over the ice from one side to the other, while a loud
howling sound was heard in the arena. While the Montréal
Canadiens were in Sudbury to play an exhibition game, the defenseman Doug Harvey purposely
scores a goal in his own net near the end of the game as the Canadiens lead 5-0.
Back to the bench, coach Toe Blake looks at him totally puzzled:
"Sorry, Toe, but youve got to admit
that it was worth it, just to see that wolf."
